The caption for this one listed the person playing the ice piano at the ice hotel....
Could it really be playable?

Ron, you are doing an amazing job of keeping this thread alive. Smiler That ice happens to look mighty appealing at the moment.

Thanks Kathy!

Continuing on a cooler theme, here's an updated player piano from an ice cream shop. Notice the touch screen on the left to make a selection, as well as the percussion stuff packed in the bottom.

I wonder if the percussion wasn't original to the instrument. There were a lot of "orchestrions," or player pianos with added percussion, mechanically bowed strings, and other sound-producing gadgets.

The touch-screen, of course, is strictly 21st century! Wink

Talking about player pianos with percussion...

I've only seen one of these, called a photoplayer, used during the silent movie era in a few of the bigger theaters. Piano, organ and lots of sound effects available through the pull cords. The boxes extend left and right past the edge of the picture. Somehow, it was possible to re-load a roll while playing something else, (two spoolboxes) keeping the music playing!

Some of these contraptions got pretty complicated; here's one that even included a steel drum!

Actually, I think that one looks really nice! I'd love that in my home (as long as it plays okay).
