One thing I notice after a few days of really paying attention to how much I eat, eating healthy, and not snacking is how full I feel after eating a modest sized portion. But that still doesn't stop me from wanting a modest sized chocolate croissant sprinkled in powdered sugar, instead of a modest sized bowl of non-fat yogurt with a sprinkling of horse feed on the top. The Dieter's prayer Lord, my soul is ripped with riot incited by my wicked diet. "We are what we eat," said a wise old man! And, Lord, if that's true, I'm a garbage can ! I want to rise on Judgment Day, that's plain, But, at my present weight, I'll need a crane. So grant me strength, that I may not fall Into the clutches of cholesterol ! At margarine I'll never mutter For the road to hell is paved with butter. And cream is cursed, and cake is awful, And Satan lurks in every waffle ! Give me this day my daily slice, But cut it thin and toast it twice. I beg upon my dimpled knees, Deliver me from jujubes please ! And when my days of dieting are done, And my war with Snickers bars is won, Let me stand with the heavenly throng, In a shining robe...size seven, long ! I can do it, Lord, if You'll show to me, The virtues of lettuce and celery. Teach me the evil of mayonnaise... Of pasta a la Milanaise, potatoes a la Lyonnaise... And crisp-fried chicken from the south ... Lord, if you love me... shut my mouth ! Npp back to 98

Jodi - you just have to give up your *right* to eat donuts - not forever maybe - but just for now, one day at a time! You can do it. Eat soup - soup is good!

NPP - I love the prayer! I'm still hanging in there. Funny thing is, I'm not actually hungry (eating three meals, and several boring boring boring snacks, so that my stomach isn't ever really empty) - but the CRAVINGS are terrible. Jodi Yesterday 98.5# Today 98#

When you quit a habit, whatever the habit is, the first few days or weeks the cravings almost feel unbearable. After a while they no longer bother you as much, not because they go away but because you learn to easily ignore them. Think of it in terms of setting a precedent for your decisions to become easier and more automatic a few weeks down the line... Elena www.duoscarbo.com

Re: Cravings. So true, Elena. I read once that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. I think there is some validity in that. When I quit smoking many years ago, the first five days were murder. After that it got rapidly easier until after about 30 days, I would go a whole day without even thinking about it.

After several months of running like a fool through the winter I'm at 101. I was recently at 102 so that's pretty good. My body likes adding weight - not getting rid of it no matter how much I work out. GF's food choices are not helping me - polish sausage with au gratin potatoes...

I had a slice of pizza tonight for dinner. Just one, very thin crust - plus salad and half a grapefruit. I've been at 95.5# for two days now, so i figure it's ok to cheat a tiny bit. Gawd, this is hard. Jodi 95.5#

Unfortunately, last night I ate a bunch of cereal - dry out of the box, handful after handful (sad, isn't it, being reduced to thinking that's a great snack!), so I'm up a pound this morning. CARP. And we've been invited to dinner on Saturday night... Jodi 96.5#

I don't think eating cereal one day would have you gain a pound overnight... I honestly think you're doing great. Remember to drink tons all day and keep salt intake down to avoid water retention (which is what I think that extra pound is). You can eat what you want at the dinner (within reason), just make sure you just have light snacks the rest of the day so you don't have a calorie overload. Elena www.duoscarbo.com

Yesterday we had an Asian Potluck at school because it was our report card workday. My, my, I was naughty. Tons of rice, sushi, stirfry, etc. Not going near scales for a couple of days and eating nothing but fruit, veggies and maybe a little fish. I didn't really pig out, but I certainly ate my fill. Don't get discouraged, Jodi. Just keep at it. #75 (at last peek)

Today I was indulging myself in my very first pregnancy pint of Haagen Daaz and feeling somewhat guilty about it. Then I opened up AOL to find the following headline: "ICE CREAM ISN'T RUINING YOUR DIET" I finished the pint. Elena www.duoscarbo.com

Any run on the pickles yet? How about liverwurst? Strong flavors seem particularly favored by those who are eating for two!
