You're too quick for me, I should have seen that one coming, Elena! touche

VeryAngry Smiler

I had an uncle who was a plastic surgeon and for many years he maintained an office close to that corner in Manhattan. The only celeb
he did work on that I remember (there were many others) was Tex Antoine.
Whatever work he did on me (and I'm not tell'n what) he did in his other office which was where I grew up in Stamford CT. Regardless, YOU have no reason to go in this direction!

Last night with great reluctance I passed on the hot fudge sunday everyone else in the house was having....

My reward: slow progress.

jf, at 95# and forgetting what goal I set.

That is great JF! Who cares what the goal was as long as you keep losing a little bit at a time.

How are you going about it? Just controling intake or also doing some extra physical activity?

No ice cream or other desserts. Smaller portions.

If I gave up wine and cheese, I could probably be downright skinny! I am THINKING about exercise, and have gone so far as to make an iPod playlist, but generally my physical activity is limited to what happens in the course of the day: spring, summer, fall it is gardening and yardwork (not a small thing); winter shoveling and skiing. (I love to ski! Do you?)

jf

PS: When I was your age I was still super skinny, which I had been all my life, until about age 40.

I’ve just read all the posts in this thread. What a great motivator to stick with your diet and exercise changes.ThumbsUp Can I join for the Dec 1 challange. My goal is 90. I have a diet plan that I want to try. Exercise is a challenge (arthritic knees, back). Any suggestions?

I'm joining you guys and gals...

OMG! These pants I put on today were fitting loose last year, now they're snug. How did THAT happen!? (asked rhetorically.)

So I'm off to page 1 to read this whole thread. Wish me luck.

OK, Lucy!

(BTW, I just read all 20 pages of this thread but it didn't help: I haven't lost a thing yet! WTF Big Grin)

Here's a few things I'm going to do:
When I get home tonight I'm going to look for that book I bought a year and a half ago about weight loss and traditional Chinese medicine. It helped then, it should help now.

For dinner this evening I had a nature burger w/ salad from Pump. It came with a slice of Pita.

Breakfast is never a problem with me because I eat a light one.

I'll have to stop having pizza for lunch. (Since I'm usually running late, grabbing a slice on the way to work is easy and quick. I'll need to start planning a little better and leaving myself a bit more time.)

No more french fries (which has been down to about once a weekend). No more potato chips or potato sticks.

Unfortunately the local deli no longer carries the plain Kavli and that's what used to help me with my late night snack. I'll have to find a new source for it. The Babka will have to go and so will the refined white bread. Low Fat Gouda will need to replace the Brie and PepperJack.

And I'll have to cut down a little on the wine.

Sounds like a plan. I've done it before I should be able to do it again.

Life stinks when you are on a diet. I so want to bury my face in the potato chip bag tonight. I hate going to bed hungry.

DONT go to bed hungry!! That is the worst feeling. I find there is stuff you CAN eat pretty much whenever you like: Fruit, Veggies, and my favorite kill-hunger snack: Full fat (greek style) natural yogurt sweetened with honey or maple syrup to which I add walnut pieces and/or fruit. This will always leaves me feeling satistified and has not contributed at all to any increase in weight.

Read an article recently (dont remember where) that your digestive system's flora is a big contributing factor to weight-gain/loss. People that eat too much junk food have their digestive flora all screwed up and this leads to a less efficient digestion and to feeling less satisfied when one eats. I do find that when I eat a lot of yogurt, other foods fill me up quite quickly. Fiancee reports the same when he takes acidophilus pills or eats yogurt.

Going to bed hungry will not serve in any way to helping you lose weight. It will just demoralize you and make you feel justified in eating more at a later time to compensate. So eat away, just don't eat junk. Smiler

Bernard, you need to lose weight???? Confused

Unless you've gained 50 pounds since I saw you in May I don't think you have much to worry about. A little excercise to stay healthy, sure, but lose weight? You'll disappear!

Welcome, fellow Loser! Wink

For no-impact excercise that is easy on your joints it doesnt get better than swimming. Any indoor pool you can use nearby?

Otherwise they have come out with a variety of low-impact cardiovascular machines which may be available in a guy where you are. My duo partner recently bought herself this great stationary ski machine which has large foot pads that cycle up and down with your body and is fairly gentle on the knees.

Believe it or not, just walking for 20 minutes a day (not even quickly) will go a long way as well.

I would be VERY unhappy with this if it were me!

Yep. Notice yourself at all getting full on less food than you used to?

hmmm, I agree that that would be too painful, but considering you have wine every night, you may consider just cutting back instead of doing without altogether. Kind of hard if your partner is drinking some though, it is definitely an activity to be shared!!

Oh I LOVE skiing too (though being from PR, I am terrible at it)! fiancee does not like it though and as a result I have not been skiing for 11 years. I do miss it. Great workout too. Gardening can actually provide a decent amount of exercise as well (as long as it is more than the mere pruning of shrubs).

Lovely, another thing to look forward to. Tell me again what the plus side of getting older is? Wink

I recently purchased a motorised arm/leg exercise machine from ex-n-flex. It's intended for disabled people. You start out in passive mode where the machine rotates for you. Then when your resistance is in the normal range, the machine switches to active mode.
