Talking about mixed ethnicities with Phykell, I went digging for a picture of my elder son James.






And the I came across this one of Puffin, one of my all time favorites of her. Both photos are about three years old - Puffin is quite a bit bigger - James remains pretty much the same.

kathyk- both lovely kids, but you'd never guess they were related, would you. Are they alike in temperament?

I have been pondering what gave me such an impression and have come to the conclusion it was the subconscious influence of your avatar; mild, friendly double-chinned face covered in grey hair. So what's James ethnicity, KathyK? He looks like like a really rangy, handsome young man. Does he play piano? He certainly looks like he has the hands for it.

Puffin is adorable. Looks like a little angel.

Haha, that's why I love that picture of Puffin, Teach - she ain't no angel anymore.

James's biological father is African American with a who-knows-what mixture of ethnicities including, of course, African slave stock, native American and no doubt, a smattering of anglo blood.

He dabbles on piano, but never studied it; he studied violin. I regret not having had him start music lessons earlier (due to my chaotic and impoverished single parenting days) because he has a real underlying musicality. Although he hasn't played violin for years now, his skill on guitar for someone, who again, only dabbles, really amazes me.

Teachum, I've met James. He is drop-dead-gorgeous! All I could think of every time I looked at him was "Why couldn't he be 10 years older (or, better yet, me 10 years younger)!" I had a hard time trying not to drool when he was nearby.

Tsk, tsk, Elena - you dirty old woman. If I'd had to guess, Kathy, I would have guess Ethiopian.

I've been toying with the idea of asking my PT to introduce me to a 'cello sometime. I'd like to see if we could get along. I think her son plays. We have a couple of killer 'cellists in the area. But then again, the piano certainly keeps me busy.
