It looks like the legs have aged differently from the rest of the instrument.

I think the legs are originally a different shade than the case.

That had occurred to me also - and may very well be the case (no pun). However, it appears to me that the case *may* have been refinished - the legs have several blemishes whereas the case seems pretty pristine. I dunno! suave
