If you can't remember, it's probably time.

I know a man who had the pictures from his colonoscopy framed and hung them in the entry of his home.

One of the drugs in the conscious sedation protocol has an amnesiac effect. I know because, when I had an upper GI, I warned the nurse that I might gag, and she said, don't worry, if you do you won't remember.

Midazolam?

For my first one I got midazolam and fentanyl. Midazolam is also called Versed (two syllables: ver-SED) -- it was originally used as a truth serum.

For the second and my last two hand surgeries, it was propofol.

Today we started to Denver for my second try for a endoscopy and a colonoscopy.
We made it 25 miles on the interstate before coming to stopped traffic.
Stuck there for 2 1/2 hours. The hospital called back and said never mind it was getting too late.
Two days of fun preparation down the drain, so to speak.

I had to cancel my endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I called the surgery center. They told my Dr. does not make exceptions. I had to have someone I knew ride with me or cancel.

I'm disappointed and discouraged but I'm grateful for the advice SK and Nina gave me not to show up because it would indeed been a waste of time.

I didn't have to the prep.

So there's that.

Speaking of medical imaging, I saw different scans of a man's head with a brain tumor on Reddit. I wish I could unsee them.

I made a new acquaintance who is going from me to and from my procedures. I rescheduled this morning.

Well, technically we friends.

I moved here on October 19, 2019 and didn't make a friend until yesterday.

Wow, yesterday was great day.

Edited to add more good news, I read through the paperwork and they're going to do CT imaging of my abdomen and pelvis. I'm so relieved about this because I've had pain in my right hip both moderate and constant for the last six months. This is a dream come true because I haven't even presented this problem to my PCP yet. Iirc, these are for evaluating possible reasons for my weight weight loss.

I'm told the pelvis isn't the hip but it still might reveal something. I've had back pain in my lower back after an injury in my late '20's (I was locked out, climbed through a casement window , and fell 4' to the floor. It's now spread to my pelvis or hip or both,? I need to Google anatomy 101.

Had one last year. Lost some of the awful prep juice down the drain. When I told doc I had not completed the prep but thought I was pretty clear, he laughed nd said in heavy foreign accent “Well, we’ll just see how full of **** you are.”

Had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago, my fifth in 20 years. it's a lifesaving procedure for me. I've outlived my Dad already (he died at age 67), all because I started getting screened when I was in my late 40s. This time around I had two more of the tubular adenomas (bad polyps) but they're gone now and I can rest easy for another three or four years.

A few hints for anyone who has to do the prep...my GI doc said my prep was good, so whatever I did worked well.

Cut back on high fiber foods starting a few days before the colonoscopy. This is the first time I did that, and I think it helped a lot. Skip the raw veggies, nuts, and granola. I just ate a lot of pasta, white bread, and ice cream for a few days.

For the clear liquids and prep the day before...

Maybe it's just me, but Jello doesn't taste like I remember it tasting. I bought orange and thought it tasted really pathetic. Ended up throwing it out.

It's almost impossible to find popsicles in the non-red flavors the instructions tell you are OK. I finally settled on Outshine Lemon bars (they also come in lime). They tasted good and didn't seem to have any lemon bits like some of the Italian ices do.

Swanson makes very low sodium chicken broth and chicken stock. I tried the stock and it was actually not bad. It had small bits of chicken in it, so I strained it into a mug and warmed it in the microwave.

Welch's white grape juice is pretty good.

I saw in some instructions that I found online that non-red hard candies with no dairy in them are allowed. So Life Savers but no Werther's caramels. I forgot to check with my doctor's office about this, but will definitely consider it next time around.

I forgot about this one when I took my first dose of the liquid prep, but took advantage of it for my second dose: Use a straw to drink the prep solution. The solution doesn't coat the whole inside of your mouth. Takes a little longer to get down, but I found it much, much easier using a straw.

Good luck!
