It the situation weren't so dire, it might be almost fun to watch Rochelle Walensky spinning, spinning, and spinning some more.

Masking.

Booster shots.

Now she tells us with disingenuous surprise.

She should be fired.

Sens. Roger Wicker, Angus King and John Hickenlooper all have Covid-19 breakthrough infections, their respective offices announced Thursday.

Wicker, a Republican from Mississippi, and King, an independent from Maine who caucuses with Democrats, both tested positive for the virus following mild symptoms, according to their statements, released earlier in the day. Later on Thursday, Hickenlooper, a Democrat from Colorado, announced that he, too, tested positive following mild symptoms.

I was chatting with a neighbor just a few days ago and he suggested this.

what we've come to....and how stupid that we've gotten to this point....I wonder if people like Gov Abbott have any clue the damage they're doing.

Sent the NPR piece to my researcher friend. Her response:

Sucks, doesn't it? Good artivcle.
Estimates are that we lose ~ 6% of COVID antibodies/mo. I think no one knew how big a problem that was because our T cells make new ones in response to infection, but maybe not fast enough. Israel proves that it's not fast enough. It's kind-of-nice to have a small, well-educated country run these "trials" for us.

Self-medicating....

The Mississippi State Department of Health issued an alert Friday warning against using an anti-parasite drug to treat or prevent COVID-19. The alert came as calls to the state poison control center have increased, with at least 70% being related to ingesting ivermectin – a drug commonly used for livestock.

"I certainly would strongly recommend people not take any medicine from a feed store or a veterinary source," Mississippi Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said Wednesday at a COVID-19 briefing. "It can be dangerous."

I always advise drugs made for a 1500-2000 pound animal for whatever ails you.

Bet those people don't anymore worms.

A piano tech friend who is totally into alternative medical treatments recently recommended ivermectin as a much cheaper alternative to remdesivir... He was sure the FDA didn't approve it for use here because of some nefarious reasons!

Covid has been especially hard on the family of a local friend I became acquainted with from us having so many friends in common.

In late winter last year or early this year (before the vaccine), her husband's parents both died within a week of each other from complications from covid. Needless to say, that was incredibly hard for them.

They have three kids, the oldest one has Downs Syndrome and a handful of medical issues, the other two are under 12 y/o.

Well, last week, the oldest daughter tested positive for covid, which is pretty scary because of her other medical conditions. Fortunately, she is fully vaccinated, so her symptoms are mild so far.

My friend tested positive a few days later, and is not feeling too hot. But again, at least she's fully vaccinated.

Well, now her son has tested positive, and he's under 12 and so not vaccinated.

They think that one of the kids got it at school (our county school district started super early this year) and then passed it around at home.

She posts super upbeat things on FB but I can only imagine how scary it all is for the whole family, esp. knowing firsthand that covid can kill.

Pfizer got full approval from the FDA.

And...

quote:
Fresh data from Israel is providing encouraging news about the effectiveness of coronavirus boosters in seniors. A study by the Israeli Health Ministry found that a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine provided four times as much protection against infection as two doses in people 60 and older.

The level of protection was five to six times higher against serious illness and hospitalization, according to the study published Sunday, which looked at protection provided 10 days after a third dose. Israel approved booster shots for people 60 and older late last month, and lowered the age of eligibility to 40 last week.

Hawaii's governor asked Monday that visitors and residents reduce travel to the islands to essential business only while the state struggles to control COVID-19 as the highly contagious delta variant spreads in the community.

Gov. David Ige wants to curtail travel to Hawaii through the end of October.

"It is a risky time to be traveling right now," he said.

Dozens of South Florida doctors staged a symbolic walkout of a hospital in Palm Beach Gardens on Monday to protest a surge in unvaccinated COVID-19 patients, according to local reports.

WPTV reported that about 75 doctors - from numerous hospitals and offices - took part in the the protest. A spokesperson for the group told Insider that all of the doctors were off duty.

Five police officers in South Florida died from COVID-19 within one week of each other, as the Delta variant continues to tear through the state and severely strain its hospital system.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, COVID-19 is the leading cause of death for law enforcement in 2021. At least 103 police officers have died this year from complications caused by the disease, according to the page, which doesn't yet list four of the south Florida officers.
