| I'll pass along what my researcher friend said after I sent her that article asking how necessary the boosters are. She does see patients on a limited basis in the eye clinic at her university. She jumped at the first opportunity to get her initial (Moderna) vaccination... quote: I'm also not convinced. Now that Moderna is approved, I'm not in any rush to get the booster. For one, Moderna has shown higher levels of antibodies than Pfizer in the long term, maybe simply because the 2nd dose was 3x higher than Pfizer's. Higher levels of side effects, too. We're doing the research on the fly (because we have to), but in addition to not knowing if it is necessary for everyone we don't know if more people will have serious side-effects. COVID is scary but so are vaso-occlusive events. Third, there are many in the veterinarian community that argue for limited vaccinations because of the concern that more vaccinations are associated with more autoimmune rxns.
If I were immunocompromised or worked directly with a lot of people (such as policemen, many of whom won't get the 1st shot, or in a COVID ward), I would get the booster now. But I mask everywhere and have limited exposure to people, even if I am fold (it's a contraction). I probably will get a booster eventually, especially as more safety data come out. But not today.
Her remarks about veterinarians refer to a lot of research that has been done regarding annual vaccines that had been standard protocol for years for companion animals. Much has been learned about duration of immunity and possible autoimmune effects. Protocols have been tweaked over the years to reflect the new information. Annual vaccination isn't the recommended protocol anymore, at least not for most vaccines.... edit: And to be completely fair and balanced, I'll add what another friend who is a geneticist said: quote: It's just a little bit of protein, what are people so afraid of.
