| quote: Sabre Corp. on Thursday said it terminated a global distribution agreement with Russia’s Aeroflot, crippling the country’s largest airline’s ability to sell seats.
The Texas-based airline software giant provides airline ticket distribution and reservation services for airlines around the world. Sabre’s decision to end the distribution agreement means Aeroflot’s flights won’t show up on online travel agencies or other third party sites. It is the latest measure that has isolated Russia’s airlines since the country invaded Ukraine last week.
Boeing, General Electric and other aerospace manufacturers have suspended parts distribution and service agreements with Russia as countries, led by the U.S. and European nations, impose sanctions in protest of Russia’s invasion. The U.S. and Europe have cut Russia’s access to their airspace. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/0...y-to-sell-seats.html -------------------------------- When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden - Minnie Aumônier

| Back in the 80’s I worked for a computer company, long since defunct. We had a whole section dedicated to making computers that could run the Sabre system. Good to hear they’re still in business. -------------------------------- Life is short. Play with your dog.

| OMG. quote: Ukrainian government officials said smoke was visible from Europe’s largest nuclear plant as Russia attacked the city of Enerhodar.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was on fire early on Friday after an attack by Russian troops, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said.
Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted, “Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broke out. If it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chornobyl! Russians must IMMEDIATELY cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone!”
“We demand that they stop the heavy weapons fire,” Andriy Tuz, spokesperson for the plant in Enerhodar, said in a video posted on Telegram. “There is a real threat of nuclear danger in the biggest atomic energy station in Europe.” https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/0...ne-live-updates.htmledit: quote: The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the largest of its kind in Europe, was on fire early on Friday after an attack by Russian troops, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said.
There has been fierce fighting between local forces and Russian troops, Dmytro Orlov said in an online post, adding that there had been casualties without giving details.
Earlier, Ukrainian authorities reported Russian troops were stepping up efforts to seize the plant and had entered the town with tanks.
"As a result of continuous enemy shelling of buildings and units of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on fire," Orlov said on his Telegram channel, citing what he called a threat to world security. He did not give details.
Reuters could not immediately verify the information, including the potential seriousness of any fire. https://www.reuters.com/market...ck-mayor-2022-03-04/ -------------------------------- When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden - Minnie Aumônier

How are they reacting to all of this?
We didn't have many relatives that we kept in touch with in recent years; most of them had died and we never had a relationship with their children. My mom still wrote to or occasionally talked to her cousin and one of my grandfather's cousins, neither of them spring chickens. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't keep in touch after my Mom's dementia worsened and she couldn't write to them anymore. I need to drop them a note; I don't even know if they're alive. I also need to catch up with a couple of the Lithuanian caregivers who helped with my Mom. They have lots of connections in Lithuania they keep in touch with regularly and I can get a better idea of how the average citizen views things. I can only imagine how nervous they might be. This is a decent overview of the situation: https://www.inquirer.com/opini...vasion-20220216.html -------------------------------- When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden - Minnie Aumônier

| Thinking it is one thing. Saying it out loud, on the other hand.... quote: Sen. Lindsey Graham's suggestion that Russians should assassinate President Vladimir Putin has drawn the ire of Republicans and Democrats concerned over the war in Ukraine.
"Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military?" the South Carolina Republican asked in a tweet....
"The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out. You would be doing your country - and the world - a great service," Graham said. https://www.npr.org/2022/03/04...lindsey-graham-putin -------------------------------- When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden - Minnie Aumônier
