I think all I'd seen before were microtonal-type keyboards, and only on electronic instruments, this is the first I've heard of these retro-fit actions!

I have heard of it. Never seen one or played one. When I saw the pictures, I was curious how you get enough leverage to play it and get any dynamic range out of it.

There seem to be a couple of extra pedals down there, as well.

Be careful with that reproducing piano, OT. You don't have room in your house for a litter of baby pianos.

Do you think she's ever googled "piano" and found PW? Or WTF? Wouldn't that be something!

If she did, you can bet we're on the NSA's hit parade.

Kathy, ROTFLMAO !

A Baldwin upright reproducer, upper action exposed:

According to the ad for The Berkley Music Exchange, it's a 1929 with a Welte Mignon reproducer(they only want $8,500 for it). I'm huessing it has wood panels glued over the pinblock section of the plate, because I can make out gussets, etc. that would indicate a full plate. Besides, my Hamilton is a 1921, and it has a full plate.

Zorba, I think you need to take a field trip to Berkley.

Square Piano, 1850
Maker: Chickering, Boston

SI photographs by Robert C. Lautman

Americans preferred square pianos in their homes until the 1870s when uprights came into fashion in the US. This instrument is similar to those used to accompany Jenny Lind at her concerts.
