Just back from Copenhagen where I managed to walk off another 5 lbs. I'm down 37 in total now. Only half a bazillion to go. Smiler

We could do the hand me-down via PM. That way the intertubes don't have to know our sizes. (Although Susan, you already posted yours--you can edit it out though.)

Good for you WTG. My ob/gyn used to warn me about trying to lose weight sooner rather than later because it gets harder. I didn't listen though.

Weird embarrassing thing--I've just been pouring sweat lately. I feel like I'm literally melting away.

I saw some pictures of some other WTF losers, but they aren't posting here. Everybody's getting down. (see what I did there?)

Brilliant idea, WTG! An on-line garage sale thread sounds wonderful. Of course not limited to clothes; there are probably all kinds of goodies out there looking for a new home. Your needlework is a prime example. I can't wait to see it.

If you will start, I promise to participate!

Well, the travel weight loss plan continues. Down another 5 after a 6 week plateau. Left a few pair of pants in China that are too big....

Great news! Travel and weight loss are usually mutually exclusive for me.

I have just discovered that I need hip replacement surgery. I've been limping around for months, thinking I would get better, but the x-ray shows that I am bone on bone in my left hip. No cartilage left at all. So now I have a double challenge: continuing weight loss and practically no exercise at all for several months. I am dreading it a bit, but my problems are more about logistics of being at home alone most of the time of my recovery, and how to deal with grocery shopping and laundry without the ability to use stairs or drive. I guess I'll figure it out.

Oh no, Susan, that's not a good thing.

But they can do amazing things. My neighbor had hip replacement a few years ago and he's better than new.

Does your grocery store have delivery?

Laundry could be a challenge.

sorry to hear about your hip, susan. rontuner had hip replacement surgery earlier this year and his recovery was very fast.

I had a chance to talk to him at kluurs' piano party back in April, and he said the technique used for his surgery is much less invasive. It requires a special table that holds the body in position.

I'm sure he'll share the information if you PM him.

Thanks for the well-wishes, all. The surgery is scheduled for November 8, so I have plenty of time to get organized. My goddaughter is going to drive me to the hospital and back home, as well as doing all the things I won't be able to do, like fixing meals, feeding the cats, and doing laundry (my washer and dryer are in the basement.) She is really a dear for volunteering to do it. I am not afraid of surgery, it's just the inconvenience of not being able to bend over, much less drive. I will just be glad when the whole thing is over, probably three or four weeks of some discomfort, and six of PT. I will be able to catch up on a huge amount of reading, and plan to gobble up two or three books a day. All suggestions appreciated!

I've been so sedentary that I've only lost three pounds this month. Better than gaining, but I've been so very careful. I'll be delighted to be getting more exercise when it's all over.

OK, officially down below my pre-pregnancy weight. Have lost more than 50 lbs so far. I hope this will be incentive enough to get me through the holidays. Foot still not well enough to walk for any length of time. VeryAngry

That's great, rf (the weight loss, not the foot!)

I always gain a few pounds going into winter and then drop them in spring. This year, I'm trying to stay at my summer weight in the hopes of losing a few in the spring.

It helps to hear about other people's success; keeps me motivated!

But I'm still treating myself to the occasional Christmas sweet treat... Evil

Good for you WTF.

I've had a few treats too. If I deny myself completely, I just end up losing control altogether.

Luckily, there are enough smaller people in the house that the highly caloric stuff seems to disappear without my help.

At the risk of seeming smug, I managed to hit my next intermediate goal despite the holidays. I now am officially overweight rather than obese. How pathetic is that to celebrate?

Of course it helped that most of the time was spent coughing on the couch.

It's not pathetic at all. And I wouldn't worry about the numbers, but rather more how you feel and the fact that you continue to lose.

It's natural for our bodies to add some weight going into winter. The fact that you didn't do that and managed to lose is actually quite remarkable.

I, on the other hand, ate way too many sweets for several weeks and gained a little. I've banished them from the house (except for some Jeni's ice cream, which isn't quite as tempting in the dead of winter as it would be mid-summer) and I know I'll be back to my pre-holiday weight in a few weeks. I've been walking each day despite the fact that I hate being out in the cold. That helps, too.

Hopefully your cough has gone away...

Progress, not perfection, right?

I've been thinking about this walking thing again. A little bit is better than none. I agree with you about the cold. You get bonus points for that!

Since mid-November, I have gained 20 pounds and lost 9 of them. In preparation for my hip replacement, the surgeontold me to eat a high-protein diet, and supplement it with a protein bar three times a day. Also to quit taking vitamins, and only take Vitamin C and Iron. Those damn protein bars have about 250 calories EACH! 3 bars times 250 calories times 30 days = disaster.

Well, not really. The doc says it really speeds up healing and prevents complications. I'm not happy about the added weight, but at exactly four weeks past surgery, I am completely healed, have no pain or even discomfort, and have no need of a cane. I am more comfortable than I have been in several years. Still tire easily, but am improving by the day.

This is the year I am going to lose ALL the excess weight. No excuses.
