Is this a significant airport? (I've never even heard of it...)

BTW this is a nice house, looks like a good floor plan. But also yet another house full of carpet! And what is it with all these people and their mostly empty basements!! suave

Maybe not a deal breaker but...

airport = planes = noise

We live not too far from Chicago Executive Airport (the airport formerly known as Palwaukee), and my mom's former condo was also nearby. Even a small airport like that can be a pain if you're not a fan of overhead noise....

edit: It's actually Lorain County Regional Airport.

http://www.loraincounty.us/com...nts/regional-airport

You can zoom out on the satellite view in the realtor.com listing to see where it is relative to the house. I don't know if it's really noisy, but there's nothing worse than buying a residence and *then* finding out you're close to an airport....

I have never lived close to an airport, but yeah, I can imagine that you'd want to really be sure that it wouldn't be a noise issue.

It's actually a pretty busy airport.

quote:
In the year ending August 11, 2010 the airport had 42,610 aircraft operations, average 116 per day: 82% general aviation, 18% air taxi, and <1% military. 88 aircraft were then based at the airport: 82% single-engine, 10% multi-engine, 6% helicopter, and 2% jet.[1]

Guess the moral of the story is to buy near Oberlin College.

House on Menlo Park (the big Tudor-looking thing with a lake view) just dropped in price $48K!

According to our Realtor, the house on Brownhelm (the other boring one) has basement issues. Cracks (repaired) and one wall is not quit plumb. I'm already leery of basements and will probably pass.

Crime rate in Elyria is pretty high, although that neighborhood looks pretty nice. Airport noise could be a deal breaker.

Hmm, I wonder why. It's been on the market something like 190+ days. I'm sure your real estate agent with have some ideas about why it hasn't sold yet. It's not for-sale-by-owner is it?

I thinnk WTG already identified it as overpriced.

It's not FSBO but our Realtor says it is a hassle to make an appointment to show.

Isn’t that silly of the owners. Hopefully you won’t have any inconvenience.

We have seen that house online. Sharon loves it. It doesn’t do much for me.

It was built in phases as a series of additions, each one a bit more sketchy than the last. It has like 4 different heating systems. It’s set up OK for the climate in Southern California, but it’s all wrong for NW Ohio.

And as MCM houses go, I think it’s ugly. Compare
it to the MCM house I posted earlier in this thread.

Interesting history on the house. One of the first things I thought was "this looks like a house transplanted from some warm climate", and I wondered how cold and drafty it might be in the winter.

Have to say, I prefer this one to the hoarder house. I like that it's nestled in the woods, and I love all the windows. And there is something so 50s about the sunken sitting area around the one fireplace; it appeals to my inner boomer.

But I wouludn't be able to get past the amount of work and money required to make either one livable.

edit: Never mind. It's under contract....shows up as Contingent on realtor.com, but not on zillow...

Even with the 3D tour, I'm a little fuzzy on the layout...

This house has two bedrooms on the first floor. I think there are two baths on the first floor, or at least a full bath and a powder room.

Two more bedrooms on the second floor, both with en suite baths. Laundry room on first floor.

What they call the formal living room I would use as an office. It's complete with doors.

Check out the virtual tour; makes it easier to figure out the floor plan...

This one isn't a "wow" (read: Dean Road) for me but I could definitely live in it,.

I thought it's worth looking at if you haven't seen it already.

edit: And there's a Mexican restaurant not too far away, and a winery.... Ole
