Very much looking forward to the televised trial -- I fully expect the 19 defendants to turn on each other like a pack of rabid dogs. popcorn

I heard kind of an interesting explanation of what constitutes participation in a conspiracy, and that even if acts that aren't normally considered criminal, if they're done as part of a larger criminal endeavor, they basically become criminal.

The example was given of an armed bank robbery with multiple people involved. Renting a car or buying a gun isn't in and of itself a crime, but if those actions are taken in the context of the commission of a bank robbery, they basically do become criminal. There seem to be those types of seemingly non-criminal events outlined in the indictment.

Another thing I heard is that the grand jury has heard recordings of other conversations besides the one that we've all heard that Trump had with Raffensperger.

The campaign lost nearly all of their appeals in court, they tried to gain illegal access to voting machines, recounts turned up nothing...the list goes on and on. Folks in the GOP have been screaming about election fraud and are unable to recognize it when it stares them in the eye. Their own GOP governor and secretary of state in GA told them multiple times there was no fraud, but they persist. Supporters are willing to brush everything Trump did aside because they think he's the victim of a witch hunt. They're unable to look at the facts in front of them, all the actions that Trump and his associates took, and to see them for what they were, an attempt to steal an election that he lost.

A televised trial will be interesting. I wonder if it will get the interest and viewership that the Seante Watergate hearings did. I think public hearings were a huge factor in the tide turning against Nixon.

It's gonna be interesting for sure.

The pressure Trump put on people seems very much like, "such a nice family you got there ... shame if something happened to them ..."

And there seem to be many more bits of information linking all this stuff together than we have yet seen.

Wow, haven't taken down the decorations from the previous indictment yet.

Fani should get some great testimony from defendants ready to flip.

TFG's history of skipping out on his bills continues...

quote:
Several of former President Donald Trump’s allies, including Rudy Giuliani, who are now facing criminal charges for helping him try to overturn the results of the 2020 election were never paid by the Trump political operation for work they did in late 2020.

The failure to pay Giuliani and his team came up last week in a private interview between special counsel Jack Smith’s team and Bernard Kerik, a Giuliani associate, according to an attorney for Kerik.

Trump and his allies raised $250 million off false claims that were peddled nationwide by people including Giuliani and Kerik, the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot said.

That money is now helping Trump pay a small army of lawyers defending him against criminal charges.

Jenna Ellis in a financial bind.

quote:
Jenna Ellis, a former member of Donald Trump's legal team who was one of 19 indicted on Monday over an alleged plot to overturn Georgia's 2020 presidential election result, has raised more than $10,000 in an online crowdfunding campaign for her legal fees.

It follows reports that Trump is refusing to provide her with financial assistance, in response to Ellis' vocal support for his Republican primary rival Ron DeSantis. Newsweek has been unable to independently verify the reports.

Appearing to contradict former President Donald Trump's primary public defense in the classified documents case, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has told special counsel Jack Smith's investigators that he could not recall Trump ever ordering, or even discussing, declassifying broad sets of classified materials before leaving the White House, nor was he aware of any "standing order" from Trump authorizing the automatic declassification of materials taken out of the Oval Office, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News.

quote:
ABC News has also reviewed an early draft of the prologue to Meadows' book, "The Chief's Chief," about his time serving as Trump's chief of staff for the final months of the Trump White House, which includes a description of Trump having a classified war plan "on the couch" at his office in Bedminster, New Jersey, at a meeting attended by Meadows' ghostwriter and publicist, but not by Meadows himself. The reference to that document being in Trump's possession was removed before the book was published.

Multiple sources tell ABC News Meadows acknowledged to investigators that he asked that the paragraph be changed, and that it would be "problematic" had Trump had such a document in his possession. Sources tell ABC News that Meadows told special counsel investigators that he did not discuss making those edits with Trump.

quote:
The former chief of staff also told investigators that shortly after the National Archives first requested the return of the official documents taken to Mar-a-Lago in 2021, he offered to Trump that he would go through the former president's boxes to retrieve the official records and send them back to Washington. Meadows told investigators Trump did not accept his offer, according to sources.
