The Invisible House in Joshua Tree, CA. Currently listed at $18 mil. Design, technology, execution - all stunning. $18 mil is a lot of money but compared against any number of workaday mansions listed for the same or more, it really stands out. The Invisible House The setting alone! Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places on Earth. More pictures here.

In that part of the desert there is water available for wells. The Palm Springs aquifer is said to be so large no one is sure just how much area it covers. It’s how they justify the golf courses.

Oh, it gets plenty hot in Joshua Tree. Not quite as hot as Palm Springs (it’s up a little higher) but 110+ regularly. Not the most practical choice of color, for sure.

Love deserts. There is a lot of difference between the areas. High desert, low desert. Used to camp in Anza Borrego a lot, and Lake Havasu for water skiing Not sure I’d want to live there.

we have friends who moved to lake havasu a year or so ago. i'm jealous in the winter and grateful i live where i live in the summer. one thing i have learned from living in the high desert just east of the continental divide--i really like living where there is water, and i miss it. mr. pique talks about moving to the desert in retirement. i need live water and humidity, i've decided.

It's weird to me that Joshua Tree has become an "in" place. I have a family member who has an airbnb there and it's quite popular. Maybe if I hadn't lived in the desert for forever I would feel differently, but it seems to me there are nicer deserts to go hang in. It is convenient to the LA area, I suppose. | |||

Heard about a man that lived in a glass house. He collected thrones. He bought so many that the thrones were stacked too high and broke the glass walls. The moral to the story? People that live in glass houses should not stow thrones.

There's some kind of retreat for artists there, maybe for composers. It's a pretty established place; it's good to be invited there.

It’s also where Gram Parsons died of an overdose in 1973. Emmylou Harris was devastated. I wasn’t happy about it myself.
