Let's hope there are birds that like to eat them.

Giant spiders.

They're rather attractive, as spiders go:

Sent that to a friend who lives in Atlanta, with the subject line "Coming your way". Her response:

quote:
They started last year. We had one with a web between 2 trees in our front yard. We typically leave bugs that are outside alone but these ones lay between 500-1500 eggs. A guy that Ernie works with had so many between his house and his neighbors’ that he could not walk between the houses. They are huge and freaky looking. Needless to say, we did kill the one out front.

That’s fine. I just hope they don’t move west.

We have enough problems with deer.

If I remember what I read about entomology years ago correctly, not a great many of those hatchlings survive. They are prey for birds and other insects, and may even eat each other. Thus the necessity of producing so many eggs.

Have an
arachnophobic friend. He is a retired Marine, too intelligent to fit the stereotype, who cringes at pictures of spiders on FB.
He is a big tough ski patroller.
Tempting to post this on FB. A guy like him having fears of spiders is amusing.
His reactions are severe enough that they prevent anyone who likes the guy from joking about his fears.

She said the spiders are polite. Oh. Well, that changes everything.

Not.
