Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed a bill on Thursday that would allow Sen. Cory Booker (D), who has been widely seen as a possible 2020 presidential contender, to run for president and the Senate simultaneously.
The new bill would allow any U.S. senator or member of the U.S. House from the Garden State to appear on both the primary general election for their respective office in addition to the presidency, according to Politico.
The bill, N.J. A4674 (18R), reportedly states that “no provision of [New Jersey’s election law], or of any other law, rule, or regulation shall be interpreted as to prevent a person from accepting a nomination by petition” to run for the House or Senate in addition to president or vice president simultaneously.
