Good tip - 2018 La Vielle Ferme Rose - very nice wine, bargain price. Widely available, grocery stores. Delicious.

Certainly. It's not a revelation or anything, just a nicely made wine at a nice price. very easy to like. Just bought another one myself. Might buy a case.

Two things about us:

1) We're cheap frugal.
2) We're lazy.

So you can see why we appreciate suggestions for drinkable wines at a decent price from someone who keeps up with this stuff.

ThumbsUp

We just got a lot more frugal this summer since we quit big paychecks work. We also lost fee gas for her company car, so we're using Gas Buddy (saved $8 on a tank the other day), stocking up on meat when it is on sale. Heck, MFR has even started using coupons at the store! We never had time to do that before.

We've been in retirement mode for a while.

One of our best "frugal fun" tips is that dining out at your favorite restaurant can be a lot cheaper if you go at lunch rather than dinner.

Our favorite Chinese place and favorite Middle Eastern place each have special lunch platters that feature a ton of food at a ridiculously cheap price. Eat half and take the rest home for next day's lunch.

Other restaurants (like our favorite Italian place and a classic American style place) serve the same meal at lunch that they do at dinner, but at a substantially reduced price (like 30 to 40 percent less). We usually go mid-afternoon so miss the work lunch crowd. You get to know the owners and staff when you're a regular and they often throw treats or experiments your way.

This getting old thing has its upside!

We are going out to lunch a LOT - we both worked at home for years, but lunches out were always rushed and often impossible because one or the other had conference calls or deadlines. Now we can go whenever we like. And we are - we LOVE being able to go to all these places for lunch that were too far for a weekday... date day every day.

We're also often having a decent breakfast and a late lunch around 2 or 3, then skipping dinner or maybe having a little ice cream in the evening. No alcohol, less calories overall without watching. We are more daytime folks anyway.

But we are flexible if I am hankering to cook - like short ribs braised in red wine tomorrow.

La Vielle Ferme was always a good value for its reds and whites. Did not know they had a rose' too.

Also, a thumbs-up to going out for lunch! ThumbsUp

If anyone is interested the short rib recipe is killer. Best thing I have cooked in a long time. Served it over spaetzle.

We routinely share one entree when eating out.

We will do that. I can't eat a half pound burger. Well, I CAN, but I won't. Hate feeling stuffed.

We often get a side salad and an appetizer. More flavor in the apps, and entrees always have filler sides that we don't want to eat.

We are seeing a lot more small plate offerings here, which is good.
