ROTFLMAO

Haven't bought lumber at Lowes; they're farther away than HD and Menards. Of those latter two, Menards has much better lumber but still more banana boards than I'd care to see.

There's a real lumber yard about a mile from our house. It's located in a small industrial pocket just off the railroad tracks.

Some pics of the tracks:

I thought the spur line was gone, but turns out the Union Pacific replaced it a few years ago.

Heller's stuff is amazing. And the people who work there have actually built stuff. Imagine that.

I ROTFLMAO go to a real lumber yard too. More expensive, but far better quality.

“Banana boards”.

I very much agree with finding a local lumber yard. In my area, H. P. Starr has two yards, one of which has an active railroad spur where they receive lumber and other products like drywall that are shipped on rail cars.

They've been my go-to place for anything more than the odd board I can sort out of the piles at Lowe's or Home Depot. 84 Lumber isn't awful, but I usually head for Starr's. Mars Hardwood Lumber near me is an excellent resource for all kinds of hardwoods and if I need larger quantities, Kestner Wood Products near Portersville sells right at the kiln and mill.

I just don't like to support businesses that sell crap lumber. That's not to say I can't find decent boards at HD or Lowe's or Menards, just that it takes a lot more time.
