I made a recording to share in PW’s ABF recital, please give a listen if you have a minute.

I recently learned of this pianist, Alexis Ffrench and have just fallen in love with his music. This iso net of the easier ones, I’m working on another right now that will take much longer to be ready to share.

How delightful!

While I listen to a wide range of music, this genre is usually what I choose when in the shop working on instruments.

Thanks for sharing!

Ron, thank you!

Ax, WTG, thanks for listening!

LL,

it's interesting you say that, because I feel like I can choose either "mostly mistake free" or "expressive" but not both! :P

But I do enjoy really enjoy this piece, I generally don't like 3/4 time, but this was a definite exception!

I have been listening to a lot of music on-line during these times. I'm glad to be able to enjoy your latest recording now.

Thanks for posting that.

Jon, Horace, Big Al, thank you all for listening!! Smiler

I have really missed my regular music parties and working on the ensemble music I was doing BC (before-covid), so it's especially gratifying to be able to share recordings now. Smiler

Very nice performance. Like the piece and composer as well. Reminded me a bit of Satie.

Thank you Dan!

Interesting the comparison with Satie... Is it because maybe there's a minimalist quality to it?

TBH I actively dislike Satie (with the exception of Gnossienne 4), esp. Je te veux... Perhaps because I never play anything in 3/4 time if I can avoid it. That might just be because I've always disliked a waltz pulse (although I like 6/8...) but then again, I never liked Gymnopédie either.... I might be the only person on the planet who thinks that! suave

Actually, IIRC, the LH of Moments and the LH of Gymnopédie are similar, aren't they? Is that where the resemble comes from?

Also, while I don't know that I'd call the Ffrench piece minimalist, it is perhaps quiet and understated, which also is probably similar to Satie...

In any case, I am too far into this piece to make that kind of comparison, but those kinds of things are always interesting to me. I am working on a different piece by Ffrench right now, hopefully I'll get a recording of it soon and then maybe you can tell me if you hear that same resemblance.

It's the left hand line that caught my attention and made me think of Satie.

Listen to the first few bars of Gymnopédie I. In my mind, you double the time sig and translate a bit and you get the Ffrank left hand line.

Not very scientific, or even musical I guess, but that's what my ears heard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
