I remember him as Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show. He certainly was a character and an icon in my generation.

I laugh at some of his lyrics every time I hear them.
My sailing buddies played his music a lot. I remember hearing him while working a spinnaker in the dark on a long distance race.
