The endangered languages that are fighting back

Many of the world’s 7,000 languages are under threat. But some are experiencing a revival – here’s why.

1. Does the world still need that many languages? Does the world still need those languages?

2. Let’s use large language model AI to help preserve those languages, at least those with a large enough amount of written records. Never subject the survival of rarely used languages to the whims of the younger generations again, who probably have better things to do than learning an almost dead language, most likely won’t learn it as well or as fast as AI, and most likely will forget it much faster than AI anyway. (Spoken languages without writing are SOL for now, we may not have a good way to train large language model using only audio recordings of spoken words yet.)

It’s beautiful. In high school we read Ovid and other classics in the original Latin, and there’s a lot to appreciate that doesn’t carry through to the translations.

So, RP, how hard was it to get comfortable with the noun declension rules?

You and RP can start posting in Latin. I'm sure there are others here who could join in. ThumbsUp
