I've seen a pack of coyotes congregating in the rain under a picnic table near Half Dome in Yosemite. Needless to say, we didn't get out of the car.

I've had them in my yard in daylight too. But here it's the eastern coyotes or coy-wolves, which are part wolf part coyote. Quite a bit bigger than the western kind.

The next town over had a series of coyote attacks on both humans and pets 2 years ago, I believe it was the worst concentrated series of attacks ever recorded. (a couple were rabid)
