Love the neti-pot. For many reasons. Now there's a new reason to love it!

rontunerI saw that this morning! Time to start rinsing...

markjWHO says no data to confirm that it is effective. I don't see how it can hurt though.

As long as you're using distilled water and are careful about taking care of the tools.
Do you remember the story a few years back about the death that was attributed to neti-pot use by someone who was just using regular tap water? IIRC... My mother and I both stopped using them after that.

AmandaThanks for the link! I woke up this morning with my first sinus infection in many years.
(And yes, SK, I will boil my water first. My sons pointed out that ghastly story about the woman who contracted some flesh-eating amoeba from using a Neti-Pot without sterile water!)

Yep. I'm sure that's the same one I was thinking of!
Mark, is UV ultraviolet? But what is UV/RO?
17 May 2020, 04:15 PM
markjThe water is exposed to UV light before entering the filters.

ShiroKuroWhat is RO? Oh, run off?
And then you boil what you use in your neti-pot?

Reverse Osmosis Filtration. We have a 6 stage RO system with a 14 gallon pressure tank. It's used exclusively for drinking, cooking and ice.

Yeah, as soon as I posted "run off" I thought, um, this is for drinking water, so probably not!

pianojugglerIf I-1 hears about it he will blather about it at a presser and the next day thousands of his followers will be stuffing nettles and pot up their noses.
Not that that would be a bad thing.

Hopefully he doesn't combine a neti pot recommendation with his previous suggestion of disinfectant...

pianojugglerWell, that might kill off the brain-eating amoebas.

CHASSome amoebas, etc. can live through a short boil.
I microwave a coffee mug 3/4 full of water for 2 minutes, 11 seconds.
