Serial origamist Has Achieved Nirvana |
That's a huge problem here. Nearly all road construction and maintenance is funded by tax on gasoline and diesel fuel. The thinking is that the heavier your car, the more wear and tear you are doing to the roads and the more gas you consume. Pretty reasonable, although a bit regressive because for decades poor people tended to drive old, thirsty beaters. It seems every other car in my neighborhood is a Tesla. There are plenty of hybrids from every maker, as well. There was talk about an extra $100 added to the registration fee every year for EVs. Not sure if that passed or not. But the EVs have not been paying their fair share for upkeep of the roads.
