I second this idea, Bernard! I do follow your blog, too. If you set up Instagram, set up 2 factor authentication, too. It only makes you verify if you’re logging in from an unfamilar device, not every single time. I just set it up on mine. If you wanted another FB account, you could make up a new email addy to connect it to. Gmail is free.

Can you have an Instagram account w/o having a FB account? For some reason I thought not, but that must not be right.

You can. They’re both owned by Meta, though, so if Bernard wants to open an Instagram account, I think he should use a different email address. And definitely use 2 factor authentication (we should all use 2 factor authentication; there’s so much scammy stuff going on).

Thanks, Jodi. Same here.

There was a time I considered trying Instagram but it's also owned by Meta, so probably not at this time.

Right after getting hacked I went through all my online logins and setup 2-factor authentication for those that didn't yet have it. I would have set 2 factor on FB, but cell service here is very bad and my phone is not usually on, and when it is there may or might not be reception. So any 2-factor app is out of the question, and at that time, I remember seeing text message as the only other option. Again, no good without cell phone reception. Most of my other accounts allow a voice call option. On the one or two that don't, I've bit the bullet and set them to text message and hope that we cell service on any day I want to log in.

Thanks, AdagioM. I have mixed feelings about wanting another FB account. Being hacked sort of feels like a blessing in disguise in that it removed something not-so-very-good from my life. (The company and it's methods, not the people who were/are my friends on the app.) It rather feels like the time my landlady told me she wanted my apartment back: Like the universe was giving me a nudge in a new direction that I really wanted and needed. I have been so fed up with FB so many times that it's kind of a relief to have it out of my hair. Meta is not a good company, they are simply a humongous vacuum cleaner; they do nothing more than suck up personal data from billions and profit from it.

Thanks, piqué. (PS I saw Lisa last week, we had dinner together. Hadn't seen her in person in a while. Looking forward to another of her salons, to play her fabulous "Adele".)

Good to “see” you here again, Bernard!
Unfortunately that’s pretty much how all the Internet services companies work. “Customers” get to use many services for “free,” but with zero live human support.

Either FB or the hacker has restricted the account - limiting who can see its content. I'll miss you on FB.

I sent a message to the old name on Messenger and the person responded with "no" when I asked if your name got hacked. So I unfriended the facebook account. I w as going to ask it when we last saw each other in person. No one from Nigeria would know that!

I just went back and your old account and the corresponding messenger account with the same name are offline. can't even call the account up. Perhaps enough good folks reported it. I'd say keep trying to log into the old one and let us keep reporting it if it's not you.
