I've been following the weather forecast, and looking at related charts, etc.

My question is how (in an astronomical sense if that's the right word) is "sunset" defined?

Dusk ends when the sun disappears over the horizon, no?

The meaning of "solar noon" is clear enough.

But "sunset"?

And, "dawn" is likewise to dusk, but sunrise?

I admit I don't know.

Sunset is when the sun is no longer visible over or on the horizon. Sunrise is when it again becomes visible.

Ok, then what do dawn (earlier than sunrise) and dusk (later than sunset) mean?

The sun is creating light on earth before sunrise and after sunset?

And usually the best part of the sunset is right after the sun is no longer visible, and the clouds light up in pink and orange against a blue violet sky!
