Ugh. So, I'm going to a conference starting tomorrow and or some reason I can't use Uber or Lyft from either my phone or my laptop. What a hassle

Are there even taxis anywhere any more?

Also, Uber is such a sh*t company. I suspect it's not them only but no phone service really sucks.

Wait, if I take a taxi, does that mean I need cash??

Uber is on strike?

My problem is in the app though, I think it’s a technical error.

We have a "Curb" app that is similar to using Uber but only calls cabs. (price figured up front instead of a meter) They don't have surge pricing, so we will check both apps in the city before picking one over the other.

Uber cars tend to be more comfortable...

I'll take a look, thanks!

Ugh, your comment about comfort reminded me of the last time I was in a taxi (pre-covid) and the way it was set up with the plexiglass etc. was awful, more cramped than usual and I remember feeling incredibly claustrophobic!

I don’t know what city you’ll be in, but some cities have “car services” where you call ahead to reserve one, and they pick you up where you tell them to. Charges are by distance plus tolls or whatever. We have that here. They are independent businesses, and Uber/Lyft have cut into their market share.

As it happens, I called the hotel, and they have two companies that they recommend. So I'll use one of those when I arrive. And I was able to connect with someone who's at the same hotel so we'll go in together in the morning.

But I really need to get this uber/lyft thing resolved. What a hassle!

I wonder if my spouse could hail a ride for me while I was somewhere else...

According to Google, yes.

Ok good, so I probably won't be stranded at least.

Every taxi I’ve taken in the US in the last ten years has accepted credit cards. Sometimes in other countries they claim their credit card reader is broken and demand cash (and then say they don’t have money to make change).

Where is your event? I’ve used the Curb app to get and pay for taxis. Also use Lyft.

Taxis here suck.

$$

The drivers won't roll up the windows. They don't want to run the air. So you get very warm and breathe a massive amount of highway pollution.

The drivers are surly. They don't want "short" trips, blah, blah...

Anyway, have a safe trip, SK!

I can’t use Lyft either, it’s very bizarre. I actually spent s little time on the phone with the bank as well to see if there wasn’t some problem with my CC - which, there isn’t, not that anyone can tell.

I’ll try Curb, hopefully I can use that!

Daniel, that sounds awful!

Maybe too obvious, but have you tried deleting and reinstalling both apps?

Under settings, do you have location service and cellular data set to “allow”?
