Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday evening that his attorneys had been informed that he had "been indicted" by the federal government for alleged crimes stemming from his handling of classified documents after leaving the White House in early 2021.
"The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax," Trump wrote on his social media website, Truth Social, adding, "I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM. I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States."
Reuters, ABC News and the Associated Press confirmed that Trump had been indicted on seven criminal counts in relation to his handling of the documents, his second indictment in as many months. The National Archives and the FBI sought to retrieve the classified documents before issuing a subpoena last spring for their return.

It seems likely that if the GOP takes the presidency back they will pardon Trump no matter what, unless the GOP president is Christie, Pence or Hutchison, all very unlikely.
Is it legal for a president to pardon themselves? That is, if Trump wins back the presidency, can he legally pardon himself?

A grand jury indicted Trump on federal charges related to his storing of classified documents at his Florida resort. This indictment is Trump's second, but it's the first-ever on federal charges for any former president.
Here's what we're following:
Charges: The counts include willful retention of information related to national defense, at least one false statements charge and at least one charge related to obstruction.
Arraignment: Trump is expected to appear for arraignment Tuesday before a judge he appointed while president.
Legal counsel: The lawyers representing Trump resigned midday Friday.
Mind-boggling. One of his aides has been indicted also.

Jim Trusty, one of I-1's lawyers, was on Good Morning America and he was staunchly defending him. I thought to myself "how can he say these things with a straight face?"
Guess he had a change of heart.
quote:
Attorneys John Rowley and Jim Trusty did not provide a reason for their departure but called it a “logical moment” to leave Trump’s legal team, according to a joint statement obtained by CNBC and Politico (Forbes has reached out to Rowley and Trusty).
In the statement, Rowley and Trusty said they will no longer represent Trump in either the classified documents case or an ongoing Justice Department investigation into his role in the January 6 insurrection.
The reports came just minutes after Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he will instead be represented in the case by attorney Todd Blanche—who also represents him in a separate Manhattan Criminal Court case over alleged hush money payments sent to a porn star and others before the 2016 presidential election—as well as a “firm to be named later.”
Trump thanked Rowley and Trusty in the post, but said “they were up against a very dishonest, corrupt, evil and ‘sick’ group of people, the likes of which has not been seen before.”

Why do you refer to him as I-1 ?

In recent court filings and in open court, President Donald Trump has been identified as “Individual-1” in a federal criminal probe. Based on court documents, it also seems reasonably clear that the president — by whatever name you call him — is deeply (and perhaps criminally) implicated in federal election law crimes committed by his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen. As a recent filing by Manhattan federal prosecutors notes, “Individual-1” (the president) directed Cohen to make payments to two women to conceal his sexual relationship with them. Cohen admitted that this conduct was a crime — indeed, Cohen pled guilty to it in a Manhattan federal courtroom and was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison.
