The agonizing story of Tara Reade

I started reporting on Tara Reade’s story a year ago. Here’s what I found, and where I’m stuck.

I wonder who the Libertarians are running this year. It may be a 2016 Redux. ever thought my choices could possibly be worse than 2016.

I don't know what to think about the Reade story....

But I do know that I was *never* enthusiastic about Biden, and this does not help. A lot of voters feel the same. Unless things change dramatically in ways that I do not see happening, I personally plan to vote for Biden (and it will very much be a hold-my-nose-and-vote action).

But in a race where we need all voters to show up, this is very, very bad for our chances of getting Trump out of office.

In order to understand and form an educated opinion on the Reade story, you need to sort through and closely read tons of articles. How many people regularly do that, about any subject? Well, and actually I've been doing that with the Reade story, and I haven't arrived at a conclusion or much of an opinion, other than that I don't like Joe Biden and I still wish he weren't the (presumptive) dem nominee.

My only conclusion is that we are screwed in Nov.

Unless the thing with that valet....

The candidates are sadly on somewhat equal footing in this regard. One accused of grabbing women's privates, the other admitting to it.

The Access Hollywood tape didn't hurt Trump. I think it's doubtful that the accusations against Biden, true or not, would make much of a difference in how people vote.

As in 2016, I'm totally underwhelmed by the available choices in candidates, but it's for reasons well beyond this particular issue.

You mean specifically Trump and Biden? I'm not so sure, I think Biden will be hurt more by this than Trump was or will be hurt by any of the many accusations he has faced or will face.

I'm not so sure about this. In other words, continuing from my first comment, the allegations against Biden will probably hurt him more than the allegations against Trump hurt Trump. If you see what I mean. Biden's possible supports care more about this stuff than Trump's supporters do.

That's not a good place for us to be in.

Equal footing as far as being a couple of old white guys accused of/admitting to grabbing women's privates.

As far as how this affects Biden...

Would-be Biden supporters will stay home? They'll vote for Trump? They'd have to be pretty focused on this single issue to react either of those ways.

What do you think will happen, and in what numbers?

I think voters who are already lukewarm at best to Biden will be more likely to stay home, yes. I don't have any number-projections. But I have a lot of friends on FB who were hardcore Sanders supporters, those are the folks who are more likely to care about this, they are why I think this will hurt Biden more than Trump being a predator hurts Trump.

It wouldn't take much to get some Sanders supporters to stay home. Their support in many cases was less than lukewarm.

Personally, I think those folks would find any excuse not to vote for Biden.

You may be right. But I feel in my gut that this (Tara Reade's accusation) will hurt Biden.

And I personally feel compromised, like this makes it very hard to me to advocate for voting for Biden. So I am very, very disappointed. Among other things.

Utilitarian voting - this is serious

Why the hell did she wait until now to bring this to center stage? It would have been useful early on in the nomination problem.

Reade's judgment in this execrable timing makes me doubt her all the more. Perhaps I'm at heart a main issue voter - the environment. Without a planet ("good planets are hard to find"), nothing much matters. In this inability to focus priorities, I feel the Left is handicapping themselves and any goal-setting.

It appears that Ms. Reade is a hard core Bernista and her lawyers are Trumpists. Sorry, no citations, a friend told me. But this smells very much like I-1 is involved. Remember he was the one (maybe it was Steve Bannon) who had a "press conference" with all of Bill Clinton's accusers before one debate with Mrs. Clinton (as if that was relevant).

Interestingly, there was an article on The Federalist that claimed to debunk this, but it has since gone 404.
