I really enjoyed seeing the draft horses. Aside from the Amish, there are a few other farmers around that just love draft horses and like to work a team. Some of them appear at area county fairs.
One of my mother's jobs when she was a child was to manage the horse that pulled the line that hoisted the hay from the wagon into the hayloft of the barn.
My grandfather worked horses on the farm I grew up on, but by the time I came along, they'd been replaced by two John Deere tractors, a Model B and a Model LA. My sister's husband eventually tracked down the LA, bought it off the man who owned it then, and restored it to pristine condition. It's one of many antique tractors he keeps on the farm where he and my sister live.
