Midget General Tom Thumb, pianist

The original famous small person – Charles Sherwood Stratton, adopted the stage name of General Tom Thumb after the fabled English legend, who was no bigger than his father’s thumb. The real life version was born in Connecticut, weighing 9 pounds 2 ounces, but only grew to 2”9. He was snapped up by the traveling circus showman P. T. Barnum, and toured the world, becoming stinking rich and meeting his wife – another small person – on the way. At the wedding, the couple stood atop a grand piano in New York City's Metropolitan Hotel to greet some 2,000 guests. He died of a stroke aged 45 in 1883, and over 10,000 friends, fans and family attended his funeral.

Stratton became a wealthy man. He owned a house in the fashionable part of New York and a steam yacht, and he had a wardrobe of fine clothes. He also owned a specially adapted home on one of Connecticut's Thimble Islands.

Kirkman and Son made this handsome miniature piano for the 1851 Crystal Palace world exposition in London to display their current developments. It is said that the midget General Tom Thumb, promoted by P.T. Barnum, played upon a piano similar to this.

Cousins Bart and Purrl
While they both like the piano, Bart (on the left) is the more musically gifted. We think it may be because he used to hang around while Aunt Laura was having piano lessons...

Bart is a really special cat. I know, I know, everyone thinks their cat is special, but Bartie really is a 1-in-a-million kitty. Bart likes to walk on a leash, ride in the car, go out to events and meet new people, heck, he'll even wear costumes if you want him to. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him, because he's affectionate and friendly, and is never timid with new people or new situations. He loves to talk (too much sometimes), and understands a lot of words. If Aunt Laura tells him to "give a kiss," he will mush his wet little nose into your face. He also insists on being blown with the hairdryer each morning (I swear, he's from another planet).
