rontunerWe've always had paper backups on our electronic voting machines, but if the electronic numbers aren't verified with a follow-up count of the paper ballots, I don't think that provides any comfort.
I've been suspicious of the electronic counts ever since they began!

Piano*DadI am less concerned by software glitches than I am by deliberate tampering/hacking. Software glitches are likely to lead to absurdities. Tampering, by contrast, will be more subtle, producing outcomes less likely to generate automatic recounts of the paper trail.

Exactly. I can easily come up with an algorithm that would inject a defined amount of variation into the counts to ensure a victory for any side. But it would look random.
