A different kind of hand sanitizer

rontunerA different kind of hand sanitizer
Anyone heard of Prefense hand sanitizer? It might be a midwest thing. Different technology - once a day application binds to skin. 30 days when applied to hard surfaces (phone, knobs, steering wheels...) I've used it during past nasty flu outbreaks - I'm a band instrument tech too, so I deal with some nasty germs all the time!
Anyway, it seems to still be available from Fruitful Yield online. I just ordered some for both our parents too... Those of you that are at risk might consider getting some.

AxtremusInteresting concept, interesting product, Ron. Thanks for the recommendation. I have just placed an order for two foam bottles. Frankly I am still skeptical of its effectiveness (there is no scientific paper I could find that talks about this type of product), but what the heck, it’s no worse than trying out a new dish or a new drink/cocktail.

AxtremusOK, also found these ... it looks like the magic ingredient is benzalkonium chloride:

rontunerThanks Ax!
I've ordered some of the surface protector to experiment on piano keys for schools and the U from zoono. They did indicate the due to high order volume, delivery may be delayed 3-4 weeks...
I've tried the foaming stuff to use on keys, but with the added moisturizer, it gives them a 'grippy' feel that players may not like.

AxtremusRon, I hope your experiment with surface protector for piano keys work. The future of all piano parties may depend on it.

pianojugglerWhat about UV light?
I noticed that the hand dryers in public places in the UK had a UV light that shines on your hands while you are drying them.
You have to make sure you don't look directly at the light. A hand dryer under a ledge makes it very hard to see the source.
On the newest flying machines, the fresh water tanks have UV lights built in to the top inside of the tank to kill stuff.
So... does anyone here know if UV kills viri?

pianojugglerWHO doesn't say whether it does or not, just that you shouldn't use UV to sanitize your hands. I'm thinking melanoma here. But it doesn't answer the question.
Can an ultraviolet disinfection lamp kill the new coronavirus? If so, you could use it on handrails, doorknobs, and piano keys.

UV lamps should not be used to sterilize hands or other areas of skin as UV radiation can cause skin irritation.
