I've been locking a lock box with a Masterlock brand lock. It failed. Luckily the lock box was open. It was a set of three so I just replaced it with another one for now. I have a feeling they aren't made like they were 30 years ago. So here's the thing- I do not want a key lock. I know it would be a better choice but then you have to hide the key or wear it on a chain. Not happening. I also don't want a TSA luggage lock. They don't fit on my lock box. I bought my lock box on Amazon for $15 and I think it would get an "F" in a high school metal shop class. The lid doesn't line up. But I want to keep it if I can make it work. The metal of lock hook can only be a small diameter. I had a small safe but the electronics died and I didn't like hiding the key. The lock failed at 3 or 4 months. I am being very gentle with the new one but it's only a matter of time before this one stops working too. Advice?

What is a lock box? Is it outside?

Yes, they can be; but, mine is inside. I actually still have the small safe, and this box, where, among other things, I keep the key to the safe.

There are much better padlocks available than Master. Look up Abus, Medeco, Mul-ti-lock, among others. They’re not cheap, but they’re likely stronger than whatever box you have and will last effectively forever. For less sensitive contents I use these. Some are 10 years old now. https://www.webstaurantstore.c...WASWKVcaArmKEALw_wcB A little powdered graphite keeps them working smoothly when used outside.
