My hometown was the high and dry spot in Swampeast Missouri aka the Bootheel. To enter it today
one drives onto Main Street and up a rise of maybe four feet and drive down Main Street.
This point is about thirteen miles east of the Mississippi River. It is where goods were unloaded from boats.
The area was "reclaimed" in the 19th century.
