That's a neat bit of history.

It's a little surprising that no one at NASA thought of taking pictures during their space flights. Given the public interest that all the various pictures from all sorts of space craft have attracted, I'm astonished that they didn't initially think of letting people see what they were seeing on the voyages of exploration.
