From the Weather Channel.

Grand Isle: 148 mph gust before the "gauge broke". Also 4' of water in front of police station, and roofs are coming off homes.

I was thinking the same thing. They're swinging freely, as though they're on little hooks.

Well, it's almost 4:00 local time, and the conditions don't look too bad.

My wife grew up in hurricane country. She said lots of people just refuse to leave, it's not uncommon.

Yeah, I grew up in hurricane country as well (Miami). I used to wander around during storms ... well, not Cat 4-5 storms, but in 50 MPH winds. Twas fun for a kid. I'm not a kid now. I understand what a wind-driven umbrella can do to a body. I know what a ten ton oak can do to a car.

A friend who lives in Gulf Breeze, between Pensacola and Pensacola Beach, has stayed at home during hurricanes.
He lets the mangroves around his house grow tall. Says the mangroves block the wind and it was not bad.

It looks to me like the engineering measures taken in NOLA worked very well. Im sure Biden will get the credit - he certainly would have been the goat if things went badly.

Bravo!

There was a picture somewhere of a couple of public works guys on a New Orleans street mocking the storm.

Found it!
