I've been eating huge amounts of oyster mushrooms, lately. I get them from a local Asian market - absolutely fabulous and healthy too. Spending ~ $20/week on them, though. How great it will be to grow my own with these kits! Hopefully, my basement will provide the right growing conditions. Never heard of "Lion's Mane" but looking forward to trying them too. Turns out it's become a popular indoor gardening fad during COVID lockdowns. Still haven't learned whether it's possible to grow second (and more) crops from the original sawdust base. Hope so. Finally, an indoor garden that doesn't require lots of grow-lights (my herb garden is very finicky). Mushrooms gardens - kits are big business

Big fan of mushrooms here; they're a staple of Lithuanian cuisine. Big treat when I was a kid was my Mom preparing wild mushrooms that friends would gather every fall and put up in jars. They only picked what they knew, and no one every got sick.... I first tried lion's mane mushrooms probably 25 years ago. An enterprising Finn up in Door County had a mushroom growing business and one of the varieties he grew was lion's mane. We used to load up on cheap shrooms whenever we went up to our vacation home. Here's an article on Seppo and his culinary adventures that included "Lake Michigan caviar" in addition to the mushrooms: https://www.chicagotribune.com...411060323-story.html Mr wtg had a roommate in college who grew mushrooms in an old toilet (not connected to anything, of course)...perfect growing conditions...cool, dark, and damp.... ![]()

Way back when he was in business, Seppo said that they hadn't figured out how to grow boletus, chanterelle, or morels. They have complex relationships with the environment around them that are difficult to duplicate for cultivation. But I see people are trying... Morels: https://www.mushroomcompany.co...s/morels/index.shtml Chanterelles and boletus still best grown outdoors: https://www.tinyplantation.com...hanterelle-mushrooms https://gardensnursery.com/how...ooms-in-home-garden/ We had morels growing on our property in Door County. Seppo had a secret location where he would pick chanterelles in late summer/early autumn. Costco has chanterelles for a few weeks around Thanksgiving.
