If you think looting is bad wait until I tell you about civil forfeiture.

jon-nycThis was last night. Later they pulled a woman from her car and beat her to within inches of her life.

ShiroKuroOh my god.
In the comments it said that he had died.
Is there any additional information?
Yes, it is why trump still has a chance... it is that and so many other things...
17 August 2020, 10:43 PM
ShiroKuroI shouldn’t have watched that. I think it needs a trigger warning.
17 August 2020, 11:00 PM
jon-nycI think he’s alive and unconscious in the hospital. I think.

Thee was one comment in the twitter thread that said he had died, the commenter is a trump supporter.
Googling around just brings up headlines that he is unconscious.
I hate what is happening in this country.

rontunerThis is happening in tRump's America - why would anyone think this would stop if tRump is allowed to continue?

ShiroKuroRon, I agree with you, that's my reaction too.
But I think Trump voters will use this as a way to say "see, we need more policing, and the Dems aren't going to provide that."

ShiroKuroBTW, from WaPo:

A Portland police spokesman added on Monday that the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was recovering in an area hospital.

pianojugglerIt is possible that I-1's supporters are fomenting violence, or may do so in the future. Wouldn't be the first time a "false flag" attack happened in the current unrest -- there was "umbrella guy" and stories of others.
I-1 has fomented division, hate, and unrest that will continue and probable get much much worse if he "wins" re-election.

We need to cure the disease, not keep trying to beat down the symptoms.

Oh I agree. I just don't know how many Trumpers do.
Re the video, I don't think the violence in the video was a "false flag" type of thing... Although I'm not watching it again to double check.

jon-nycWe have multiple diseases coursing through our veins at the moment. This is one. Trump is another.

Piano*DadThe people who beat him need to be arrested and charged with assault or attempted murder. Period. The last one who kicked him is easily identifiable in the video. That was attempted murder in my book.
Also, hard to shut out the n*****, n*****, n***** coming from some of the participants, just like uhhh, or f*** as a common space filler.

I'm not going to watch it. Thanks for the warning.
But the people committing a violent act don't need to be the bearers of a false flag. They can be people on the cusp of violence that are incited by (used by) someone who wants violence to happen. While we can argue what role the incitement plays (like we can argue whether entrapment is a legitimate criminal defense), external incitement has been well documented recently.
I am not making excuses for the violence. I am saying that we have seen cases where a party has incited violence so that someone can point to it and say "look, there's violence, we need to give our police CS gas, armored vehicles, and allow them to detain people without warrant while remaining anonymous."
In short, I'm just skeptical that everything is just organic violence at this point.
