Wow.

New Monmouth South Carolina poll numbers

Biden 36%
Sanders 16%
Steyer 15%
Warren 8%
Buttigieg 6%
Klobuchar 4%

Wow is right. It's another reason why the caucus/primary system is all messed up, IMO. There are very different voter preferences out there, and Iowa/Nevada/New Hempshire don't represent all voters.

Ugh.
Bloomberg needs to get out of the race, but so does Steyer!

Yeah, I find the Tom Steyer one of the most baffling part about this.

What am I looking for in a president? A rich guy that looks like Dana Carvey’s church lady charactor...

But this is just what the bettors thought going in, that Biden's advantage lay in states like SC.

Re Steyer, he has spent a huge amount of money on ads in the Southeast (NS, SC, Georgia)

Right but it wasn’t looking like this last week.

Here's my armchair psychology assessment: moderates are freaked out about Bernie. When the pollsters call, more of them say they're thinking about Biden than perhaps they might have said before Bernie became The Anointed One last week.

It remains to be seen whether: 1) they actually vote in the primary; and 2) if I'm completely out of my mind. Big Grin

You mean back when people there weren't really paying much attention ... Big Grin

Black people in South Carolina haven't been paying attention if they vote for Joe Biden. He was the architect of the prison industrial complex bill. Although in fairness Bernie Sanders made a dispicable and idiotic decision to vote for it in exchange for a paltry sum for domestic violence programs.

This whole primary seems like a stupid game. By the time Oregon has its primary, things may already be decided. Why can’t we all vote at the same time for primaries? Who made Iowa and New Hampshire the anointed ones? Why doesn’t my vote count?

Rant rant rant

There’s something to be said for having some smallish states lead. The idea was that a relative unknown could practice retail politics without a large budget and compete. Jimmy Carter in Iowa was the poster child. Or even Santorum in a later age.

To me the big problem is using the same states over and over. Mix it up a bit.

From 538.com this morning.

quote:
As Nevada went to the polls last Saturday, the FiveThirtyEight forecast considered Sanders the slight front-runner in South Carolina, with a 1 in 2 (46 percent) chance of winning it. It gave Biden a 2 in 5 (40 percent) chance. Since then, in a reminder of how fluid primaries can be, Biden’s chances have skyrocketed. As of Thursday at 5:38 p.m. Eastern, Biden has a 14 in 15 (94 percent) chance of winning the Palmetto State, while Sanders’s odds are down to 1 in 20 (5 percent).

. I agree. And stop making this whole process so damn long. How many debates are needed?

Yes, I like the idea of mixing it up--or getting a better representation of the US. Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada don't exactly do it. If they were to toss in a few states with large urban areas (like NYC, Boston, LA, Atlanta) that would make things more interesting, and more honest.
