A very dark time and a huge and deadly crime, perpetrated by our government.

We have an occasional poster who’s wife was there.

That would be my wife. She was a student there at the time of the shootings.

Each of us probably has some events in our lives where we remember where we were before and after they occurred and that changed us in some ways. The Kent State shootings were such an event for her.

There are ways to shade the meaning but it was a massacre. My father and I argued about Kent State when I was a child.

Terrible.

My neighbor's sister was at Kent State at the time.

Nobody in my family ever spoke to me about it.

I was 8 years old.

My father said: "They (the students) were standing there." This was his rationalization. Can you imagine?

There was another massacre at predominantly black Jackson State in Mississippi on May 15, 1970.

Interesting live version from 1971, when emotions were still raw.

Children.

When I think about Kent State, that's what I think about. And I think about the kids I teach, who are of course in the same age group...

My brother and his family live in Kent and worked at the university. It's never far from the surface.
