QuirtEvansDid You Know the Moon Is a Part of Mars?
You didn't?
Just ask Trump.

jon-nycThe charitable interpretation is that there’s a current plan for Mars that involves staging on the moon or something like that.
But still.

I'm sure that's what the buffoon actually meant, but he's so scatterbrained that he couldn't comprehend how his tweet would look.

That's how I interpreted it. It's also possible, though, that they told him that a trip to the moon would be part of any trip to Mars and he thought they were saying that the moon is part of Mars. I have thought all along that he was suffering from dementia. If so, either of these things could be true.

Bingo.
Plus, mere months ago, they said we’d be going back to the moon within five years.
Don’t tell me what I said, listen to what I’m saying!

rontunerOf all the stuff that's been tweeted by I1, I'd probably give him a pass on this one. Here's what I think he meant in that second part - here's that part of the tweet:
"They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!"
Let's just call the Mars and Moon stuff "space exploration" - then it becomes:
They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Space exploration, Defense and Science!
So the moon reference wasn't meant to be taken literally as part of the planet Mars, but rather part of doing stuff in space.
Or maybe it's just scary that now I'm seeing sense in madness???

Piano*DadNo, you're correct. When people pound on tweets like this with rolled eyes and finger wagging, and with the same intensity as they react to his sh!thole stuff and "good people" claims about supremacists then we equate the two. This devalues the argument and comes across as just the petty complaints of petulant people. (Love that alliteration!).

NinaAgreed, this doesn't rise to the level of sh!thole countries and good people, but I'm not going to give him a pass. This is a sentence a high schooler would know not to construct. He's the POTUS, and shouldn't be free-associating on twitter at all.
And, of course, if you're part of the NASA lunar group and suddenly hear that the moon is no longer a priority despite statements that it was, that's not just awkward grammer.

QuirtEvansThe most troubling part is that I don’t think he realizes it’s inconsistent with his own prior statements. He doesn’t remember.
