Some obscene percentage of organized religion just seems like a set of justifications for an in-group to wield power over others, with an in-in-group of priests at the top enjoying the control.

This is unfortunately not an isolated incident.
There was a report from 2004 that estimated around ~1000 Hindu and Christian girls/women abducted a forced converted to Islam to marry Muslim men.
