China dealing with hot spots.

A small Chinese city on the border with Russia is mounting an increasingly urgent defence against a surge of new coronavirus cases even as crowds return to restaurants and shops in much of the rest of the country.

Some good graphics from the Beeb showing the numbers. The animated graph labeled "How confirmed cases of coronavirus have spread" really makes the point.

Well, we'll get to see how a second wave plays out, possibly, if China produces trustworthy statistics. If not, we'll play a guessing game in the dark, with anecdotal evidence from the occasional brave citizen who tattles on the government.

I'm super interested in this↑ question.

quote:
They argue that more patients could receive simpler, noninvasive respiratory support, such as the breathing masks used in sleep apnea, at least to start with and maybe for the duration of the illness.

I think this is like what they did for my aunt's care. Ok, now I see where the article says that a bipap machine is not the same as the sleep apnea one, but she has the bipap. And she had noninvasive oxygen support, and of course is now home, continuing to get slowly better.

[quote]at risk of suffering the long-term cognitive and physical effects of sedation and intubation while being on a ventilator.p/quote]

This is so scary to me. And when I worry about my 75 y/o mother getting sick, for example, this is part of what worries me.

Also, I wonder if Jodi is following this news and what she thinks about it based on her experience of monitoring Mr. Jodi's oxygen levels at home. As I recall, he was quite low for a while there.

So much for "reopening" the country by May 1 ...
