An individual reported to Highland Park police in 2019 that Robert E. Crimo III attempted suicide, according to Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. The individual contacted police one week after learning of the attempted suicide.
Law enforcement spoke with Crimo and his parents in response to the report, and the matter was handled by mental health professionals, Covelli said.
“At the time, there was no law enforcement action to be taken,” he said.
The second incident was in September 2019, when Crimo had threatened to “kill everyone,” according to a family member who reported to Highland Park police, Covelli said.
Police removed 16 knives, a dagger and a sword from Crimo’s residence, Covelli said. At the time, there was no probable cause to arrest and no complaints were signed by any victims.
There was no information that Crimo possessed any firearms, Covelli said. Highland Park police notified Illinois State Police of the September 2019 incident....
The Lake County coroner confirmed a seventh death in the Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park after the gunman, fired more than 70 rounds with a high-powered rifle at a crowd of bystanders.
