You probably know this but there are now defunct plans to build a tower over Grand Central Station. I can't remember if they were part of the original plans (or maybe I didn't forget and didn't know-- whichever; maybe someone besides Google had the answer).

Also, historic preservation was one of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' causes and she saved it from being demolished (can you imagine?).

This is why I stood in line there and signed a condolence book when she passed (and because she was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis; I didn't need the confluence of events to motivate me).
