Quick question for Boston peeps
If you're just doing a touristy weekend there, where is a good area to stay?

I mean like what's close/convenient to a lot of the cool stuff?

That depends on what sort of cool stuff you want to do most.

Historical sites? Fun for the kid? Theater? Museums? They're in different places.

Boston is small, so you may as well stay at my favorite: the Westin in Copley Square (https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/boswi-the-westin-copley-place-boston/). It's in a nice location, just behind the Boston Public Library), steps away from the subway, and a short walk to the Public Garden and Boston Common. Their breakfast buffet is second to none, and sometimes they offer a "weekend getaway" page that includes breakfast and a late (4pm) checkout time.

Do tell..when will you be here?

And if you are staying in town with the boy, there is so much to see..The Aquarium, the USS Constitution..Old North Church, you might take a water taxi to the nearby harbor islands...The Mapparium at the Mary Baker Eddy museum is awesome...Right near Symphony Hall if you are over that way. The MFA museum currently has an exhibit of Frida Kahlo.
Then cross the river to Cambridge..the architecture at MIT is amazing.

The MIT museum is great but my ALL time fav is Harvard Museum of Natural History ..The best part is the glass flowers but for the boy, an old school museum of specimens of animals, some now extinct.

I'll be up there in June as well...playing at the New England Conservatory and coaching students. Hope to see local WTFers.
