Pinta & the Santa Maria Has Achieved Nirvana |
There is definitely an issue with global warming and the need for more cooling technologies. It's also true that "developing" countries are demanding more and more A/C, regardless of global warming. Until the newer technologies are tested and put into production, it's unclear to me that there will be any change. People want what they want and have convinced themselves that they're entitled to it. The biggest change we could make tomorrow in terms of reducing the impact of A/C on climate change is to turn up the thermostat, and invest in some fans. But folks want to have their thermostat set to a temperature that might be reasonable for Nome. Next up is to be smart when/if you have to replace an A/C unit, and choose the most efficient possible. When did it become an impossible expectation that people should actually feel *warm* during the summer when running errands or doing indoor chores, or cold in the wintertime? I definitely am getting my buttons pushed here (as if you couldn't tell... ). | |||

Yes, there are a plethora of new AC cooling technologies. It's been pointed out that there has only been the most miniscule progress before now (largely to replace freon refrigerant) . Better late than never, yes, but earlier would have been still better. Nice to hear that Bill Gates has donated $20 million to the Blue Frontier undertaking. Excellent coverage of main new projects to improve cooling methods
