Big Grin

I still remember when I first heard Lehrer's songs. My college friends and I couldn't stop laughing.

What made you think of this one?

He's still around.

And even the younger crowd appreciates his music...

Poisoning the Pigeons was new to me. Just connected the Vatican Rag to Lehrer. Thanks

I have that book beside my piano. One of my sons bought it years ago.

I first became acquainted with Tom Lehrer's songs by way of a college room mate.

The thread reminded me of another satirical composer, P.D.Q. Bach, as imagined by Peter Schickele.

i was introduced to PDQ Bach while in music camp in the berkshires when i was 12 years old.

for the final performance of the summer, some members of the senior orchestra and chorus performed "Ipheginia in Brooklyn" which led me to get several PDQ Bach albums that fall.

Iphegenia is performed by a counter tenor singing a recitative, accompanied by oboe and bassoon reeds--without the oboes or the bassoons.

I was all alone in my appreciation after that summer, unfortunately. Big Grin

The Elements
Masochism Tango
I Hold Your Hand in Mine
Fight Fiercely Harvard
The Old Dope Peddler
and one of my all-time faves, Be Prepared!

Many years ago on a road trip with mother, we sang along with the complete 3 CD set.

He said his parents were "gastronomic Jews... they worshipped at the deli". Yeah.
