Is Voting a Privilege?
Nearly half of white Americans seem to think so.

Not super relevant, but note where it says "Asian adults were interviewed in English only" -- I would guess that that means that Spanish speakers had the option to choose Spanish. Interesting.

Separate from that, these results present us with another "ugh" moment. Frowner

Some of these so-called patriots apparently haven't read the constitution. Pssst: spoiler alert, there are amendments!!

Right or privilege? Both. The problem with the concept of rights is the responsibilities portion seems to have been forgotten.

Nice republic if you can keep it.

Focus on the “and can be limited” part.

Most folks know that the only one that matters is the Second.

It's always been limited and is limited today if you are a felon in a lot of states. SCOTUS just ruled that you can have your name removed from voter rolls for not voting in a number of elections. There used to be a whole lot more limitations.

I'll give you the felon, but striking your name from the voting rolls isn't really revocation of the voting privilege, it's more "we don't know that you still live here and are alive, so please re-register".

There also used to be poll taxes, but I thought we'd finally gotten past the idea that you can revoke voting privileges (felons excepted, because we don't think they should be part of the group making determinations about who governs us). Apparently not.

Splitting hairs. You do not, and never have had, a right to vote without any participation or requirement on your part. It's not quite like a driver's license, but probably more like that than an absolute right.

I wish more people saw it as the blessing it is and respected it more.

Make it mandatory, and you get both.
